Commitment to sustainability
Reduction of CO2 emissions is one of our top priorities. Having worked on supply chain excellence and emission reductions for several years, we’re committed to cutting our CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2012.
IMCD Group B.V. is the first distributor to be awarded the prestigious Lean & Green award. The award is a part of the innovation programme Sustainable Logistics by Connekt, an independent network of companies and authorities, collaborating to achieve a sustainable improvement in mobility. Connekt supports 250 leading companies, so called ‘front runners’, in the field of sustainable transportation of goods. The Sustainable Logistics programme was initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Transport and it supports logistics companies in their strive to significantly reduce CO2 emissions while increasing profitability. Although Sustainable Logistics is a Dutch project, IMCD Group and Connekt have agreed to expand the project on a European scale.
It’s our belief that sustainable and reliable mobility can only be achieved if governments, knowledge institutions and industry adopt a joint approach to these issues. Connekt provides a platform for parties to meet and collectively achieve goals that would otherwise be impossible on an independent basis.
Sustainability – Embedded in our processes
| Our culture at IMCD can be described as one of driving innovation and continuous improvement. We believe that sustainability functions as a source of inspiration for innovative thinking and that it will contribute in the development of new concepts and services for our principals and customers. In order to achieve this goal, we only work with partners who also understand and see sustainability as a competitive advantage. | ![]() |
Sustainable Logistics programme encourages companies to grow to a higher sustainability level by taking measures that not only reduce cost, but also reduce the environmental impact by focusing on:
- Reduction of our carbon footprint
- Supporting the growth of our suppliers and customers’ business by providing sustainable solutions
- Ensuring safe stewardship of products
- Communicating progress
- Office & travel
Transportation
IMCD only select carriers who continually upgrade their fleet of delivery vehicles, incorporating the newest engine (Euro 5) to increase fuel mileage and reduce emissions. For the Benelux, we achieved an annual decrease of 21% in CO2 emissions over three years. This achievement was mainly driven by supply chain efficiencies.
Recycling
Our facilities recycle or reuse IBCs, pallets, cardboard and fibreboard.
Reduction in Energy Consumption
Our new offices use energy-efficient lighting, with motion sensors to turn lights on and off. They also use automated heating and air conditioning systems that heat the office by sunlight and cool it by electric blinds. The system switches itself off during non-working hours. Other initiatives include measuring petrol consumption of company cars, traveling less, more video conferencing and minimising paper consumption by driving automation.
