It is used in topical formulations like ointments, creams and lotions. In ointments, it acts as the ointment base. In creams and lotions, it is a significant contributor to the oil phase. It can be White Petrolatum or Yellow Petrolatum. White Petrolatum is a highly refined petrolatum so that it is nearly decolourized.
