Poloxamers

a-Hydro-co-hydroxypoly(oxyethylene)poly (oxypropylene) poly (oxyethylene) block copolymer

Poloxamers
Non-ionic polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymers used as emulsifiers, solubilizing agents and gelling agents. All poloxamers are chemically similar in composition, differing only in the amounts of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide added during manufacturing. The Polyoxyethylene segment imparts hydrophilicity, while he polyoxypropylene segment imparts hydrophobicity. Poloxamers 188, 407, and 338 are thermoresponsive polymers

Benefits / Claims
Fast dispersion and rapid emulsification from large droplet to medium sized droplet.
Hydrophilic coating of surfactant on oil droplets minimizes the lipid digestion.
Formation of other secondary structures such as micelles, chylomicron in the GIT fluids which helps in drug absorption
Non-digestible solubiliser to minimize drug precipitation in the GIT
