Poloxamers

a-Hydro-co-hydroxypoly(oxyethylene)poly (oxypropylene) poly (oxyethylene) block copolymer

Poloxamers
Non-ionic polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymers used as emulsifiers, solubilizing agents and gelling agents. All poloxamers are chemically similar in composition, differing only in the amounts of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide added during manufacturing. The Polyoxyethylene segment imparts hydrophilicity, while he polyoxypropylene segment imparts hydrophobicity. Poloxamers 188, 407, and 338 are thermoresponsive polymers

Benefits / Claims
Forms clear gels at higher concentrations-temperatures than other polymeric systems. Can be used as gelling agents to build structure in topical aqueous solution and exhibit thermoreversible behaviour; they form gels which are liquids at room temperature but solidify upon contact with skin.
